Garlands & Wreaths, Styled

The tree gets all the attention — but it’s the garlands and wreaths that carry Christmas into every corner of your home. Here’s how to style them so the whole space feels pulled together, not just the lounge room.

Dress the mantel

Lay a garland along the mantel and let it drape generously at both ends — aim for tails that fall about a third of the way down the fireplace. Tuck in fairy lights, a few baubles that match your tree, and some pine cones for texture. Anchor the ends with a ribbon bow so nothing slips.

Wind up the staircase

A banister is made for a garland. Loop it along the handrail and secure each swag with floristry wire or ribbon ties, keeping the dips even. Add warm lights woven through for that evening glow as you head up to bed.

Welcome guests at the door

A wreath on the front door is the first “hello” of the season. Hang it at eye level, and echo it with a smaller wreath on an interior wall or above the mantel to tie the rooms together.

Think beyond the obvious

  • Frame a doorway or window with a slim garland.
  • Lay a short garland down the centre of the dining table as a living runner.
  • Prop a wreath on a sideboard against the wall instead of hanging it.

Keep it cohesive

The quickest way to look “styled” is to repeat your tree’s colours and finish across every garland and wreath. Matching foliage — all flocked, or all natural green — ties the whole home into one considered look.
